4 Common CrossFit Questions
We hear everyday at CrossFit Stimulus in Hampton common questions from those new to CrossFit or those thinking about joining. While there is a lot of information about CrossFit on the internet, some of it is simply not true, or it’s not the whole truth. Below, we’ll answer four of the most common questions we get about CrossFit. Contact us to get started!
What is a CrossFit Workout?
Crossfit is a total body strength and conditioning program that focuses on “functional movements,” which are movements you perform in daily tasks at home, at work, and in sports. Some examples are squatting, getting up and down from the floor, picking up a heavy object from the floor properly, etc. CrossFit workouts are perfect for all fitness levels and are customized by expert CrossFit coaches to individual abilities and fitness goals at every class. CrossFit movements are typically performed at a higher intensity and for a shorter time (10-20 minutes) in order to produce visible and measurable results in just a few weeks, compared to a regular gym workout that can take several months or more to see results.
Is CrossFit Good for Losing Weight?
YES, CrossFit is excellent for weight loss. With interval training and anaerobic exercise, the body uses a higher percentage of fat for energy as opposed to muscle glycogen. Not only does this type of exercise burn more fat and calories, it also increases the calories burned for hours after exercise. Anaerobic exercise combined with the strength training performed in CrossFit workouts also promotes an increase in lean muscle, which in turn leads to an increased metabolic rate and higher fat burning levels all day long, even when not exercising.
How is CrossFit Different?
Crossfit is a total body fitness program that focuses on functional movements and improves all 10 major fitness domains: stamina, strength, flexibility, speed, coordination, power, agility, balance, accuracy, cardiovascular, and respiratory endurance. At CrossFit Stimulus, we really have it all, including expert personalized coaching, CrossFit nutrition consulting, a super cool and fun support team that holds you accountable, and a CrossFit community of everyday people, just like you, that motivate and encourage you every step of the way.

Is CrossFit Expensive?
The cost of CrossFit is actually far less than most fitness studios or personal trainers that cost between $40-$60 an hour, which is more than $500 a month.
At a regular gym, you are simply paying for “access” to the gym’s equipment, and that’s exactly what you get.
At our gym you’re paying for:
- Individual coaching at every class, which is just like having your own personal trainer but without the cost.
- Every CrossFit workout program customized to your fitness level, your goals, and based on your strengths and limitations.
- CrossFit Coaches that observe and correct your form with every movement to give you the best results and to avoid injury.
- Nutrition coaching to help you tailor your diet to feed muscle and starve fat.
- CrossFit Coaches that know you personally and hold you accountable to your exercise and fitness goals.
- A community of everyday people that chase their goals right beside you, motivating and supporting you every step of the way.
As a human being on this planet for whatever time you are given, there are certain things you need to do, from work and earning a living to taking care of yourself spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally, as well as leave your community and your family better. Too many people neglect the physical part of taking care of themselves, and as they age, they gain weight, lose self-confidence, and start to feel depressed. They give up on themselves, listening to that voice inside their head that tells them they can’t do things.
At CrossFit Stimulus in Hampton, you will be told you can do things. In fact, you’ll be told you can do anything if you set your mind to it. While that first step can be scary, once you face your fear and you walk through our doors, you’ll see the magic inside, from the CrossFit results others have gained to the CrossFit community that holds us accountable for our everyday actions.
