Athlete of the Week: Cal Thompkins

When & where did you start doing CrossFit?

I started in August 2014 and haven’t looked back since.

Favorite WOD or exercise?

My favorite exercises are pull-ups and hand stand push-ups. Those are the two exercises that I can see the most improvement in.

Least Favorite WOD or exercise?

Overhead squats. I still struggle with maintaining proper technique.

Favorite hobbies outside of CrossFit? 


Playing basketball, and chasing my son around the house.

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?

What the $#@%, that was insane!!

What are your short term and long-term CrossFit goals? 


Short term goal is to lift with proper technique on all WODs.

Long term goal is to be able to compete in a CrossFit event.

What are some of your greatest achievements inside the gym?

Being able to do butterfly pull-ups

How has CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym? 


I have lost weight and have a lot more energy. Also, I am inching closer to my goal of being able to dunk once again.

What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit Stimulus?

Don’t stop. Extended time off will suck soooo bad the day after your first day back.

Your favorite cheat meal is?

Banana pudding milkshake!!

A fun fact about me is?

I am a city boy from Pittsburgh and my wife had to show me how to cut my grass….I know pitiful…

If I created a WOD and named it after me it would be?
