Get Closer to Your Goals Through Food

The pieces that may be missing from your routine are foods and nutrients that support your body through all the stress you put it through. Read below and find out about the foods that are easy to incorporate and delicious!

Beets

If you are not eating beets, you should be! Although they’re not everyone’s go-to veggie, they are easy to roast and add to your meals. Beets supply iron and nitric acid to help get your blood oxygenated and moving. Studies have shown that it can improve time to exhaustion in more cardio-heavy workouts (think running and rowing). There are many beet powders and supplements on the market, so add beets to your pre-workout routine to get your blood flowing and well-fueled for your workout.

Cruciferous Veggies

Cruciferous veggies are delicious and include cauliflower, broccoli, kale, cabbage, and brussel sprouts. These veggies are high in fiber, folate, B vitamins, and vitamin C — all of which are powerhouses in facilitating natural detoxification. Cross fit is notorious for adding increased amounts of inflammation to the body, so adding these to your regimen will help quell that and help reduce oxidative damage so you can recover more quickly.

Garlic

Garlic not only adds huge amounts of flavor to dishes, but it also has a slew of benefits to boot! It supports a natural inflammation response and heart health, all while being antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal — garlic seems to do it all!

Spices

Consider adding spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, cumin, and cloves. Though spices don’t contain any of the major macros, these four are nutritional gold mines! Not only can they help reduce inflammation, but they also boost recovery and improve your overall health. They are simple to add — throw them in a smoothie or a marinade to reap the benefits.

Berries

Berries are chock full anthocyanins, polyphenols, fiber, and vitamins making them superfoods for a reason. Berries can be eaten at any point in your workout, but are superb in a highly demanding training session. Recover faster and enhance your performance with berries!

Spirulina

We know that fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, but why? Fish primarily consume algae such as spirulina or its close relative, chlorella. These algae are some of the most diverse, nutrient-rich foods on the planet! They are high in vitamins and minerals to expand your workout and all your gains!

The proper food will no doubt enhance your Crossfit workout and it’s relatively easy to get these into your diet.
